📜 Sources
This is not a library, and not a rabbi. Each day is a short thought from a real excerpt. The citation sits next to it, so you can open the source and check.
The books inside
The app holds a chosen collection of classical texts: 1,260 excerpts across 1,111 topics. Not the whole canon, and not every edition. Only what we actually lean on.
Torah and Scripture
Most of the collection is verses from the weekly Torah portions. Beside them: Psalms, Proverbs, and Isaiah. Hebrew often sits next to the translation.
The sages
From the Talmud we take short passages with an address: tractate and page. Pirkei Avot often shows up in daily wisdom. There are chosen midrashim, and Rashi’s commentary.
Practice and later teachings
In the app, the Shulchan Aruch is study, not a ruling. Zohar, Likutei Moharan, and Tzavaat HaRivash are a few chosen excerpts, not the books in full.
How a thought appears
First we take an excerpt with an exact address: chapter, verse, or page. Then we write a short thought only from that text. We do not invent an essay “about Torah in general.”
The card always shows the citation. If the thought does not rest on the quote, we rewrite it or do not send it in the newsletter.
Even with a citation, a thought can be shorter and simpler than the source. Sometimes the reading is contested. Terms of Use say this. Do not make decisions about halakha, ritual, or personal practice from a card alone. There is no rabbinic review of every thought.
The weekly portion
The Jewish calendar tells us which portion this week holds. The verses and the full reading come from the same collection, often with Hebrew beside them. The day-by-day notes rest on those verses, and on commentaries when we have them. This is not the whole book, and not a stand-in for reading with a community.
Tanya each day
There is a separate daily cycle through the Tanya: a thought in the morning, a quiz in the evening. That day’s text is a Tanya page, not the list of books above. The Talmud cycle (Daf Yomi) is paused for now.
If a citation looks wrong
Write david@torahdaily.app or @torah_app. Include the card, the citation, and what does not match. In the app, daily wisdom has a helpful / not helpful mark — that helps us too. You can also join Advisor’s Chat.
